My only success metric is connection

I was going to write a newsletter about self-trust this morning (my favorite topic, as you know!), but have been feeling such an urge to just connect more.

And so, I'm half-cringing, half- excited to tell you I've created an Instagram account (@cydnee.detoy).

Here's the back-story:

I've been building my LinkedIn community for the past two years. It's going well (6,5k followers!), but over the past few months, I've been feeling like I have to contort to get my content seen…

The things that work on LinkedIn - catchy hooks, pithy provocative posts and ranting about toxic workplaces or burnout - don't feel authentic or actually allow me to connect with you.

And the topics we care about and work on – the mindsets, inner work and clarity you need to create and thrive in your career - don't perform as well as resume writing pro-tips and ATS hacks.

At the same time, Instagram has been catching my eye…

I'm perhaps as shocked as you as I haven't posted a single thing on Instagram since 2017. But at some point in January, I started to see how you can connect more authentically on the platform…

You can have a conversation and answer questions in the stories and write thoughtful posts instead of optimizing for concision and hooks.

Or at least that's my hope.

I don't love doubling-down on Mark Zuckerberg's product, but there are only so many social media platforms with a critical mass.

So I'm on Instagram

I have no idea how to use it (I've sorta created one reel? haha) or how to optimize for the algorithm, so I'm just there to have fun and be creative.

I also really want to challenge myself to share more candidly about my own career journey, how I use the tools I'm teaching you all and dive way deeper into all of the inner topics we can't get into on LinkedIn (self-trust, self-worth, intuition, etc.).

Eep, stating it here for public accountability.

So if you feel called to it, please give me a follow! @cydnee.detoy

(disclaimer: I probably won't follow you back to maintain coach / client boundaries)

If you have any pro tips or requests for topics I cover on Instagram, I would love to hear them!

Oh, and you'll still see me on LinkedIn a few days / week.

And while we're talking about different places to connect, I was on The Untrivial Podcast last month!

I loved this conversation with Ally. We covered my best tips for determining when you are and are not in an aligned career, why so many women reevaluate their careers and ambition in their early-30s and how to avoid the LinkedIn comparison trap.

Ally's mission is to add another female voice to the many (many) man-led popular personal growth podcasts. I am so for her mission and love her podcast, so give her a follow if you'd like to support!

I'll close with a plug for CalmOS. A few women have already claimed their spots and I'm thrilled to see the community that is coming together.

We are breaking the cycle of doubt, pressure and overwork that so many millennial women fall into!

If you'd like to explore what can change for you in eight weeks, let's chat

Have a great weekend, and I'm excited to keep connecting - on Instagram, LinkedIn, Spotify and of course, here!
